Just home from a 30 hour holiday

Our friends DandD gave us a gift certificate for a BandB in Williamston for our birthdays!

On the way we saw fields of tobacco, peanuts and cotton ready to be picked. This field was stunning and there was cotton as far as you could see.

Since we were going up that way we went paddling on Merchants Millpond. Talk about another world. I went a few years ago but Michael had never been.

So quiet, so serene, almost prehistoric!

Here is a link to Merchants Millpond State Park Website.

As we were driving to the BandB it started to rain - talk about good timing. We welcomed the rain, it has been very dry here this summer. A tropical storm is a welcome event this year.

The BandB we went to is called Big Mill and the Innkeepers name is Chloe. Our room was fabulous and breakfast was served in our room. Our "room" was really 3 large rooms, a bath, a bedroom and a large combination livingroom kitchen dining room. there was free wifi, a refrigerator, stove, and microwave.

The room we stayed in was called the Pack house. Here is a link to her website.

We ate dinner at SunnySide Oyster Bar, which was a trip. It's been there since 1935. There isn't a typical kitchen, their oysters are steamed out back behind the restaurant, brought in b the pect, and shucked for you in an old fashioned, horseshoe shaped bar.
Some of their shuckers have been there over twenty years! Here is a link to their website.

From Williamston we drove out to Manteo. I'll talk a about that in my next post, part of which I will direct to our City fathers.
